We like to hold events on days where temperatures/wind chill will be tolerable. If the temperature forecast high for the day is less than -10 deg C, if the wind is going to be 20km/h or greater, or if the POP will be greater than 50% we may postpone the launch. Please check this web site the morning of the launch to verify we are a go for launch.

The Edmonton Rocketry Club launches several times throughout the summer, fall & winter months depending on weather conditions. (Clear, calm winds and mild). Club members are expected to refer to this web page before coming out to a launch.  ERC members are responsible flyers. No trash is left at the site after a launch and alcohol is strictly prohibited.  Canadian Association of Rocketry (CAR) safety regulations are in force.

Would you like to be notified of upcoming launches without having to come to our webpage?

The ERC now has a launch notification service, provided to keep those who would like to attend the launches of the Edmonton Rocketry Club notified of up to the minute changes to go/no-go status of the launches.  This is an opt-in service only, click on the following email link  to subscribe to this service:

launch.notify@edmontonrocketry.net

To unsubscribe from this service, please send an email to the above email address, with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.  The ERC respects your privacy and will never send information unrelated to ERC operations to it's list members, and would NEVER sell the list participants information to any individual or entity for any reason.

If you know of any location that would be suitable for flying within city limits, we would like to hear from you.  Please, don't hesitate to Contact Us

ERC also hosts an annual high power rocketry launch called Fire and Ice.

Edmonton Model Rocketry City Bylaw

The bylaw is an amendment to Bylaw 2202, BYLAW 13382 PARKS AND RECREATION BYLAW AMENDMENT NO. 12 Section 15 "ACTIVITIES REQUIRING A PERMIT" Subsection (d).

"15 While on Parkland no person shall: (d) operate a model aircraft, rocket or other power assisted flying model;

Beyond permits for educational purposes, the city is not awarding permits for this activity on any Parkland area within the city.  Although this severely hampers our efforts to bring a safe and fun environment for our members and the general public, we do have a field outside of the city that we can use to fly to our fullest potential.  If you would like to join us, please subscribe to the list mentioned above.

Notice: The Edmonton Rocketry Club is always on a search for a large field within an hours drive of Edmonton to be a potential site for a high power rocket launch.

Are you interested in watching or participating in a high power launch and have such a field or know someone who does?

If so, please read the following information for more details:
The site would ideally be between 1 to 2 km square (a section or two of grazing land would be ideal), with a minimum of trees. The site would be used a minimum of once per year up to a maximum of 4 times per year. Any launches conducted on the site will be under the rules and regulations of the Canadian Association of Rocketry, (CAR), and with the formal written approval of Transport Canada. Please note that every person launching these high powered rockets are required to be a C.A.R. member. Please Contact Us anytime regarding a launch site potential.
